One of the aspects of the phoenix myth as told by the Greeks is the inclusion of the palm tree. The phoenix, it is said, builds its nest among the fronds of the date palm. This association persists, as certain types of palm trees have been given the name phoenix in modern taxonomy.
In this last installment of the series of posts about the phoenix, we will make an educated guess as to why the date palm became associated with the mythical fire bird. Then we'll consider shared characteristics between the phoenix and other mythological birds. Finally, we'll take a look at two examples of phoenix symbolism as utilized by modern occultists.

To further our understanding of the mythical phoenix bird, we must look to the land of Phoenicia in Canaan, and to the flora and fauna of that region. Even though the myth of the resurrecting bird originated in Egypt, the Greeks, who affiliated with both the Egyptians and Phoenicians, married concepts from those cultures to create the phoenix myth that we know today.

The best-known occult writer and philosopher of the twentieth century, Manly P. Hall, titled one of his books The Phoenix. The fact that he would name it so suggests something about the importance of that mythical creature. The subtitle of Hall's book is An Illustrated Review of Occultism and Philosophy, which tells me that Hall viewed the phoenix as an appropriate symbol to represent the entirety of occult ideologies. That being the case, we ought to discover the full meaning of the symbol. The better we understand the iconography of the enemy, the more effectively we will be able to speak against it.
Not much of what you will find in this series is original. Several other authors and bloggers have already written about the mysteries of the phoenix. No single writer, however, has covered all the bases. My goal is to bring together scattered ideas into a small collection of posts which will guide the seeker methodically through a broad study of phoenix symbolism.
The persuasion that began with Eve in the Garden of Eden has continued since that time and will reach its apex through a system known figuratively in the Bible as Mystery Babylon. In fact, this system is in full swing already. The nachash of the Garden (which was probably Satan) was the first manipulative advertiser and slimy salesman, and he continues to ply his trade with expert efficiency in these last days.
In this post, I begin by exposing the esoteric meaning of the snake as a symbol, which in turn explains why goddesses are often seen with snakes. I then link the ancient fertility goddesses such as Ishtar to the great Babylonian harlot of the Book of Revelation. I explain the nature of the beast which she rides, and demonstrate that she is the mirror image of the Bride of Christ, who is the second Eve.
It's odd, isn't it, how tales that incorporate dragons so often portray them as being appeased only by the sacrifice of a special damsel (often a virgin). Usually, a hero will appear to slay the dragon and rescue the young lady. But why are dragons after these ladies to begin with? Is there any deeper meaning to this motif, or do maidens simply make tasty morsels for dragon-kind? The subject is more nuanced than you might expect, and it finds intersection with both the first and last books of the Bible.
In the middle of the Book of Revelation, the apostle John is shown a scene in the heavens: a woman with a crown of twelve stars is giving birth to a male child, and a great red dragon waits to devour her offspring as soon as the delivery is completed. This is very compelling imagery because it incorporates action and tension involving archetypes that have been with us for thousands of years.
